In the Edo period during the reign of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the tradition began of placing tea into a jar and offering it to the shogun—an event marking the start of the “Tea Jar Procession.”
In commemoration of this tradition, the Ameyoko Shopping Street Promotion Association, in cooperation with the Shizuoka Prefecture Tea Industry Association, made an offering and prayer at Tenmangu Daishi Temple in Mariko, Shizuoka, dedicating “Mariko variety” of Shizuoka tea.
